a short biography

Peter H.T. Tam, born in 1942, is a Belgian engineer. He received his masters degree in architectural engineering from the Catholic University of Leuven in 1975.
All his life has he been fascinated by both art and philosophy and has been searching for a way to combine those two in one single art form. But he was so busy with his work as an engineer, that he just kept this idea at the back of his mind.
At the age of 55 Peter Tam realised that he had to materialise this idea or it would be lost forever. After all, after years of research he now possessed the know-how to create art that represents the philosophy of life and nature.
Peter Tam sees life as a piece of silk being blown by the wind. The silk represents our inner strength and the wind represents the challenges we are faced with. Thus the shape of the silk depends on how hard we fight and which way we chose.
This means that each life pattern is unique. And as life is unique and beautiful in all its ways, so is every artefact created by Peter Tam.
And although some encounter many problems, while others live their lives in happiness, we all have our ups and downs. The purpose of life is to find our own way to get through these problems and discover happiness.
All these elements can be found in Peter Tam’s art: the abstract form represents the ups and downs and the figure represents a person's character.
Every artefact is carved from a massive block of wood. And each person can interpret this artwork differently depending on the angle, the position and the personal interpretation of the artwork.
